Storing & Keeping
Nothing on this page makes fruit better. All of it decides how long the fruit you already have stays worth eating, which in a Konkan summer is the whole game.
One layer, moving air, and a number you can read
Almost every storage mistake with mango is the same mistake: stacking. Fruit under fruit bruises under its own weight, the ones at the bottom turn first, and you do not find out until you lift the top layer. One layer, air underneath, and something over the top to keep flies off is the entire method.
The second mistake is guessing at the room. People ripen by the afternoon temperature, but it is the night low that sets the pace, and in a dry north-Indian winter it is the humidity that shrivels stem ends. A fifteen-rupee hygrometer turns both of those from a guess into a number.
Five of the ten below are already live elsewhere on this site, with the guides that explain them.
On prices. We do not list prices. Amazon only permits it through their live pricing feed, and a hand-typed number is wrong within a week. Every tile goes to the listing where the current price is.
Ten that decide how long it lasts
The first five are in use here and written up in the guides. Every one of these is a live link.
-
Ripening
Bamboo single-layer ripening tray
Air moves underneath, mesh keeps flies off. A 30 cm tray holds six to eight.

-
Fridge
Stackable airtight fridge bins
Cut mango gets a sealed layer of its own, instead of leaking onto the onions.

Ripening
Room thermometer and hygrometer
The night low is what stretches a five-day window to eight. This tells you what yours is.

Portion
Kitchen scale, 10 kg by 1 g
A one-week calibration exercise, not a habit. It is not a medical device.

-
At the door
Hanging scale, 50 kg
Check a peti against its stated grade. Not a legal trade measure, and weight is not quality.

-
Storage
Airtight glass jar set
Glass over plastic for anything oily or strongly spiced. Plastic keeps the smell of the last thing in it.
View on Amazon
Actual glass. The cheaper sets that outrank it are PET plastic.
-
Fridge
Reusable mesh produce bags
Fruit in a sealed plastic bag sweats and rots. Mesh lets it breathe in the fridge drawer.
View on Amazon
Twelve bags, dual-layer mesh, mixed sizes. Machine washable.
-
Freezer
Vacuum sealer
Worth it only if you freeze pulp in quantity. For two tins a year it is a waste.
View on Amazon
Comes with a cutter and a roll. Bags are the running cost, not the machine.
-
Drying
Food dehydrator, 5 trays
How aam papad is made without a terrace and three days of sun.
View on Amazon
Reviews on this one are mixed — read them before you commit. A cheap mesh drying net does the same job slower, for a fraction of the price.
-
Monsoon
Moisture absorber sachets
For the jar of kokum and the tin of cashew through a Konkan monsoon.
View on Amazon
Eighty food-grade sachets. Not the wardrobe dehumidifiers sold under the same search.

Where the tracking ID finally matches
A small piece of housekeeping, since this site is open about how it is paid for. The storage tracking ID on this page was originally made for storage products and then quietly ended up carrying a thermometer, a kitchen scale and a luggage scale as well, which made the reporting meaningless.
This page is where those four actually belong, so from now on the tag and the shelf describe the same thing.
